Residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dreaming of visiting Japan can now simplify their journey with the availability of an eVisa. This visa allows tourists to explore the country for up to 90 days, making it easier than ever to experience all that Japan has to offer.
Streamlined Online Visa Application
As of March 27, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has introduced an online application process for short-term tourist visas. The new system applies to all foreign nationals residing in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Applications can be submitted via Japan’s official eVisa platform at www.evisa.mofa.go.jp.
To provide UAE residents with comprehensive information about the Japan visa process, a dedicated hotline (971-800-032-1271) operates 24/7.
Application Requirements and Eligibility
Before applying for the eVisa, applicants must ensure they possess a valid passport, Emirates ID, and UAE residence visa. According to the Japan eVisa website, all foreign nationals who aren’t subject to Japan’s visa exemption measures and live in designated countries or regions can apply for the online visa.
These countries include:
- Brazil
- Cambodia
- Canada
- Mongolia
- Saudi Arabia
- Singapore
- South Africa
- Taiwan
- United Arab Emirates
- United Kingdom (UK)
- United States of America (USA)
However, if an applicant’s nationality is among the 69 countries eligible for visa-free travel to Japan, an eVisa application is unnecessary.
eVisa Duration, Validity, and Issuance
A short-term visa for tourism purposes lasts for 90 days, and the eVisa remains valid for three months from the day after issuance. Typically, the issuance process takes five working days.
Visa Cost
The visa issuance fee, as per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stands at 3,000 yen (approximately Dh82). Certain nationalities, however, may be exempt from this fee or eligible for a reduced fee.
As specified by the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai, over 30 countries are exempt from visa fees. The general cost of the visa is Dh80, while Indian nationals pay Dh20, and certain nationalities are granted free visas.
Payment must be made in cash at the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai for residents in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. Abu Dhabi residents must visit the Embassy of Japan.
