Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai, has issued a stern warning to young people in the UAE against visiting cafes or venues where drugs are consumed, regardless of the legality of these substances in other countries.
During the inauguration of the Drug Prevention Forum held at City Centre Al Zahia Mall in Sharjah, Lt Gen Tamim stated: “We will not hesitate to monitor these places and the young people who visit them, and arrest them upon their return to the state [UAE].”
The event was attended by Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, among other senior officials. The forum, themed ‘Join us to stop it,’ was organized under the patronage of Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The event was an initiative of the ministry’s General Department for Drug Control, in cooperation with Sharjah Police, aimed at promoting drug awareness and prevention.
The warning underscores the UAE’s firm stance against drug use, and its commitment to curb substance abuse among young people.
