Farm owners in the United Arab Emirates with a limited income will see a reduction in their monthly electricity bills starting July 2023, following a directive from the President of the UAE.
Helping to Ease Financial Burdens
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a statement on Friday, directing the authorities to support and alleviate the financial pressures on farm owners, with a particular emphasis on electricity tariffs, as per the state news agency WAM.
Subsidy Plan from the Ministry and Union Company
Both the Ministry of Community Development and the Union Water and Electricity Company have confirmed their commitment to providing subsidies to those who qualify. This financial assistance plan is set to be implemented from July 2023 onwards.
A Leadership Initiative to Empower Citizens
This latest measure of support from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is part of a wider series of initiatives from the UAE leadership. They are keen to empower the country’s citizens, ensure they have a good quality of life, and improve the services provided to them. This initiative particularly focuses on those in the lower-income bracket.
In a region where farming can be a challenging endeavor due to harsh climatic conditions, this subsidy is expected to significantly contribute to the sustainability and profitability of small and medium-sized farms, strengthening the agricultural sector as a whole.
