SpiceJet, one of India’s major airlines, is planning to reinstate four of its 25 grounded aircraft back into service by June 15th. The move could potentially lead to a decrease in domestic airfares across the country.

Aiming to Reduce Grounded Fleet

The airline currently has 25 aircraft that are not in service. However, as part of its strategic plan, SpiceJet is working to reduce this number and aims to bring four of these aircraft back into service in less than a month’s time. The grounded aircraft have contributed to a reduced flight capacity for the company and have caused operational issues.

Impact on Domestic Airfares

The reintroduction of these four aircraft could potentially lead to a decrease in domestic airfares. With more aircraft in service, SpiceJet would be able to increase the frequency of its flights and provide more seating capacity. This increase in supply could, in turn, lead to a decrease in airfares as the airline competes for passengers in the domestic market.

Looking Ahead

The airline’s plans to bring these aircraft back into service represent a positive step towards increasing its operational efficiency and competitiveness. The potential decrease in airfares could also make air travel more accessible to domestic travellers, leading to a potential boost in the industry’s recovery from the impacts of the pandemic.
