Schools closed, army enters Punjab, Delhi submerged, Yamuna overflows.

GulfHindi English Desk: Heavy rains and floods have wreaked havoc in northern India due to the monsoon season. Continuous rainfall has not only caused the Yamuna river and its tributaries to overflow but has also triggered incidents of landslides, claiming the lives of 19 people so far.

In Delhi, the rainfall has broken records since 1982. Solan in Himachal Pradesh recorded 135 mm of rainfall, the highest since 1971. Similarly, Una also experienced the highest rainfall since 1993.

The heavy downpour in Delhi resulted in the collapse of 15 houses and the death of 2 people. The Delhi High Court has granted relief by passing orders in the absence of lawyers.

In Noida and Ghaziabad, all schools have been ordered to remain closed. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had to enter the water to rescue stranded people.

Himachal Pradesh has witnessed 54 deaths and 4 missing persons in the past 16 days due to road accidents and landslides.

The Punjab government has requested assistance from the Indian Army to deal with this emergency situation. The government has issued heavy rainfall alerts in all 10 districts. Schools in Mohali have been instructed to remain closed on Monday. Heavy rainfall alerts have also been issued in all 10 districts of the state on Monday.

The education department in Haryana has instructed all district collectors to announce holidays in schools based on the weather conditions on July 10th.
