Saudi Arabia has started issuing electronic visas for the upcoming season of Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage, which commences later this month following the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah stated that visa applications can be submitted through the Nusuk platform. The visa holders are expected to start arriving in the kingdom to perform Umrah as of the first of Muharram, which is the inaugural month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
The Nusuk platform facilitates several procedures, including accommodation arrangements, for Muslims from all over the globe intending to perform Umrah in Mecca, the holy city of Saudi Arabia, and to visit Medina, which houses Islam’s second holiest site.
Millions of Muslims, unable to physically or financially manage the annual Hajj rituals, descend upon Saudi Arabia to undertake Umrah. The process is now further simplified with the introduction of electronic visas.
