Unexpected Weather in the UAE
In an unanticipated turn of events, several parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) experienced rain and hail on Saturday, May 20th. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), similar weather is expected to continue into Sunday.
Weather Forecast and Areas Affected
The NCM predicts a partly cloudy and dusty day for the country, with potential for convective cloud formation that could result in rainfall over some Western and Eastern areas. This might extend to some internal and coastal areas as well. The regions that experienced moderate to light rain include Sharjah International Airport, Al Batayih in Sharjah, Meshairef in Ajman, Al Dhait South in Ras Al Khaimah, Mukherz in the Al Dhafrah region, and Al Faqa/Al Shiwayb in Al Ain.
Alerts and Warnings
In light of the current weather conditions, the Met department has issued yellow and orange alerts. Residents are advised to exercise caution due to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly strong winds reaching 45 km/h and rough seas. These conditions are expected to last until 23:00 on Sunday, 21/05/2023, causing possible dust and sand disruptions, which could decrease horizontal visibility.
Sea Conditions and Temperature Updates
Sea conditions are predicted to be moderately rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea due to the weather. As for temperatures, they remain high despite the rain and hail, with Abu Dhabi expecting a peak temperature of 44ºC and Dubai forecasting a maximum of 41ºC. Humidity levels in both cities are likely to range from 15% to 50%.
