The chief minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, has closed Singhawala toll plaza on Moga-Kotkapura road. CM Mann has already closed 9 toll plazas before this. This is the 10th toll which CM Mann has closed. On Wednesday, Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself reached the toll plaza and closed it. It is said on behalf of CM Bhagwant Mann that by closing this Singhawala toll, people will save 4.5 lakhs rupees daily.
Let it be known that the decision has been taken by the Chief Minister after the agreement with the toll company ended with the Punjab government. He stated that all the tolls that have been closed in the state so far. These toll companies did not comply with the government’s conditions under the agreement. He said that these tolls should have been closed in previous governments.
According to media reports, earlier this year in the month of April, the Chief Minister had closed down the Samana toll plaza located in the Patiala district. He had stated that the closure of the Samana toll plaza would save people INR 3.80 lakhs daily. He revealed that on 1st September 2005, an agreement for 16 years was made with this toll plaza. According to media reports, he stated that the toll company had violated the agreement made with the state government. The company did not adhere to the agreement and carried out its activities in an arbitrary manner. Consequently, the government took action against this company.
