GulfHindi English Desk: The National Consumer Cooperative Federation (NCCF) has announced the sale of tomatoes at a discounted rate of INR 90 per kilogram in Delhi-NCR to help consumers cope with the rising prices. The retail price of tomatoes has reached up to INR 224 per kilogram in different parts of the country, causing inconvenience to consumers. In response to the high price hike, the central government has instructed cooperative organizations to sell tomatoes. NCCF has stated that they will start selling tomatoes at their office in Rajnigandha Chowk, Noida, and expand the sales to Greater Noida and other locations. To reach more areas, the number of mobile vans will be increased from Saturday. NCCF is also discussing the sale of tomatoes at affordable prices through its retail stores in the national capital. The first truckload of tomatoes from the major production center in Madanapalli, Andhra Pradesh, is expected to arrive tonight. According to government data, the average retail price of tomatoes nationwide on Thursday was INR 114.72 per kilogram, with a maximum price of INR 224 per kilogram and a minimum price of INR 40 per kilogram. In major cities, the price of tomatoes on Thursday was INR 168 per kilogram in Delhi, INR 160 per kilogram in Mumbai, INR 143 per kilogram in Kolkata, and INR 132 per kilogram in Chennai. The disruption in supply due to the monsoon has also led to a sharp increase in prices.
