Mahindra & Mahindra Limited has unveiled the concept model of Electric Thar at its global event ‘Futurescape’. This 5-door electric SUV will be part of the company’s Born Electric (BE) range. Its name will be THAR.e. In the BE range, the company is developing 5 electric cars apart from Thar.E.
At the event in Cape Town, South Africa, Mahindra introduced the ‘Global Pick Up’ truck based on the Scorpio N SUV and a new platform called ‘OJA’. It has been developed by Mahindra Rise for the light weight tractors included in the company’s lineup.
The company can launch both the cars in the global market including India by 2025. At the same time, tractors and utility vehicles based on the ‘OJA’ platform will be launched in the markets around the world by 2024.

In the event, the company announced the date of its upcoming electric vehicles.
Here we are telling about these cars and platforms…
Thar.E to retain off-roading capability
Mahindra says that the new electric Thar will not be an electric version of the existing ICE Thar, it will be based on the company’s new INGLO-P1 platform, which will provide better off-roading experience with more ground clearance. The wheelbase of the Thar.e will range from 2,775mm – 2,975mm to accommodate the additional doors and battery pack. The new logo of Thar will be seen in this.
Mahindra Thar.E : Exterior Design
The Mahindra Thar.E gets a futuristic design as compared to the current ICE model. The front of the electric SUV features squarish LED headlamps sandwiched between LED DRLs with rounded off-corners. A glossy black stripe connects the two headlamps.
The steel front bumper gives a rugged look to the Thar.e. The electric Thar looks longer than the current Thar due to the extra door and bigger alloy wheels with squared wheel arches. An extra wheel has been given on the tailgate in the rear. It gets square LED taillamps just like the current generation Thar.

Mahindra Thar.E: Interior Design
The Mahindra Thar.E comes with 75 different tunes for different drive modes, from opening the doors. All these tunes have been composed by Indian musician AR Rahman. These tunes will be found in all the upcoming electric cars of the company. In addition, there will be a water hose inside the electric SUV that will clean the cabin after off-roading.

The interiors of the Thar.E get a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display and AC vents on the dashboard. It gets a new design steering wheel which is completely different from the existing models of the company.

Thar’s off-roading nature will remain intact
The company has not yet given more information about the upcoming SUV. Considering the Thar’s off-roading nature and 4-wheel drive capability, the company may use a dual motor setup to power the THAR.e.
One motor will be on the front axle and the other at the rear, or a quad-motor setup could also be seen. In this, an electric motor is installed for each wheel. This setup provides precise torque and traction control during off-roading.
Global pick up will be equipped with safety features like Level-2 Adas
Prior to the Thar.E, the company unveiled the ‘Global Pick Up’ truck. The company has developed it on the platform of Scorpio N. The company has made this pickup truck with the target of bringing 5 star safety rating in Global NCAP and Latin NCAP.
It will be equipped with Level-2 ADAS, trailer sway mitigation, all-around airbag protection and drowsy driver detection. Based on the next generation ladder frame chassis, the Mahindra Global Pik Up will get features like Zip, Zap, Zoom and custom drive modes.
