Effects of Sanchar Saathi Portal
The implementation of the Sanchar Saathi Portal has yielded significant results in combating illegal activities related to SIM cards, WhatsApp accounts, and stolen phones. Since its launch in May 2023, the portal has led to the blocking of over 57 lakh SIM cards and the blacklisting of 67,000 SIM card dealers. Additionally, approximately 66,000 WhatsApp accounts have been blocked, preventing the misuse of the messaging platform for illicit purposes.
One of the key achievements of the Sanchar Saathi Portal is the blocking of 17,000 stolen phones. By identifying and blocking these devices, the portal has played a crucial role in curbing the market for stolen phones, discouraging theft and reducing the circulation of stolen devices in the country.
The portal has also proven effective in addressing the issue of lost or stolen phones. Through its advanced tracking system, the Sanchar Saathi Portal has successfully traced and recovered around 3 lakh lost or stolen phones. This has not only provided relief to the owners of these devices but has also helped in reducing the financial losses associated with phone theft.
Since its launch, the Sanchar Saathi Portal has facilitated the registration of over 300 First Information Reports (FIRs) related to illegal activities involving SIM cards, WhatsApp accounts, and stolen phones. This indicates the increased awareness and willingness of individuals to report such incidents, which is crucial in curbing these unlawful practices.
