Retirement Age Hike: A Significant Milestone
The Chhattisgarh government, led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, has announced an extension in the retirement age for Anganwadi Workers and Assistants from 62 years to 65 years. The Women and Child Development Department of the state has issued an official directive in this regard.
Enhanced Remuneration and Additional Benefits
Prior to this announcement, the remuneration for Anganwadi Workers was INR 6,500 per month, which has now been increased to INR 10,000 per month. Similarly, the remuneration for Anganwadi Assistants has been raised from INR 3,250 to INR 5,000, while for Mini Anganwadi Workers it is increased from INR 4,500 to INR 7,500 per month.
Additional benefits include a lump sum payment upon retirement and increased gratuity in case of death. Now, Anganwadi Workers receive INR 50,000 and Assistants INR 25,000 upon retirement. In the unfortunate event of death, a gratuity of INR 50,000 is provided.
A Strategic Move Before Upcoming Elections
The decision comes ahead of the upcoming legislative assembly elections in the state and is viewed as significant. The Anganwadi Workers had already been protesting for the fulfilment of their demands. The government’s decision is expected to offer considerable relief to them, thereby positively influencing their morale and effectiveness.
